Gastro-Travel uses, ​​​​​​​ WeTravel - for registering and booking travelers 

  • WeTravel is a free platform for group travel organizers- like Gastro-Travel, to easily & securely accept payments, register travelers, as well as organize and promote our travel experiences. 

Registering with WeTravel is completely free, easy & safe! 

  • Travelers who join a trip use WeTravel for free, as long as they pay for their trip with a US checking account. If a traveler chooses to pay with a credit card or if the trip is in a foreign currency, a 2.9% transaction fee is incurred which is set by the credit card companies. This transaction fee is paid by the traveler and added to the price of the trip at checkout.

Important information & FAQ: 

1. Is Wetravel the official organizer of the trips offered on ?
  • Wetravel is a platform that connects trip organizers with travelers. Wetravel supports the trip organizer in advertising the trip, coordinating travelers and collecting money. We also vet every trip organizer that is publicly showcased on our site. However, the responsibility for organizing and conducting the trip fully lies with the trip organizer, in this case Gastro-Travel.

2. Where is my financial information stored?
  • Wetravel does not store any financial or sensitive user data on Wetravel servers. User data such as credit card numbers, bank accounts or SSNs are immediately and securely transmitted to our payment provider. Our payment provider is Stripe ( ), one of the largest payment providers in the world, used by many large internet companies such as Facebook or Twitter. Wetravel nor Gastro-Travel has at any point access to the user’s financial data.

3. Are flights included in the trip price?
  • International/Domestic flights are not included in our trips, unless otherwise specified in the trip description. Often, travelers have specific airline preferences. Depending on the trip, the price might include shorter flights during the trip. If you live in North America, our Customer Support would be happy to help you arrange flights.

4. Are the trips guaranteed to run?
  • Wetravel trips usually run only if a minimal number of travelers book the trip by the date indicated in the listing. This minimal number and date varies by trip.

5. What happens if the minimal number of travelers is not reached and the organizer decides to cancel the trip?
  • We will reimburse 100% of your deposit and payments. 

6. Do I need Insurance?
  • We recommend that you acquire comprehensive travel insurance which includes at least USD$ 200,000 worth of emergency evacuation and repatriation coverage. If you do not have Travel Insurance yet, we are happy to arrange travel insurance for you. Just call us and we will give you a quote from our partners.

7. Does the trip include visa and visa fees?
  • Unless otherwise stated in the trip description, trip prices do not include visa fees. For most destinations, it depends on your nationality whether or not you need a visa. You need to inform yourself about visa requirements in the destination country. If you need any assistance, please contact us

8. Can I join only part of the trip?
  • For many trips, it is possible to join only part of the trip. However, you would be responsible for all costs associated with joining a tour late or leaving early. Please contact us or the trip organizer for more details.

9. Is Gastro-Travel employed by a tour operator?
  • Many of our organizers are independent tour organizers and are not directly employed by a tour operator. They are travel aficionados that are passionate about taking you on an awesome authentic trip. We strongly believe that this provides you with a more authentic travel experience than commercial tour agencies and provide better prices. Although they often work together with a local travel agency, their independence guarantees that they will take you off the beaten path and truly show you their home through the eyes of a local.

10. What happens if a trip organizer is unable to conduct a featured tour?
  • If a trip organizer is unable to conduct the tour because of a last minute severer illness or accident, the trip will be conducted by an English-speaking, local guide. 

11. How is Gastro-Travel able to offer such competitive prices?
  • Our unique business model, through Wetravel, offers tours that are organized directly by the trip organizer. There is no middleman and we have much lower margins than traditional tour operators.

 12. What if the trip turns out not to be as advertised?
  • Wetravel takes great care in screening our trip organizers and our trips. In the unlikely case that a trip does not fulfill your expectations and largely differs from the description on our site, we will partly or entirely refund your trip to you.

13. Cancellation Policy
  • Deposits are non-refundable if the trip is going through. If you cancel your booking more than 30 days prior to departure, the penalty is 50% of the trip price. Within 30 days of departure, the penalty is 100%. Because of this, we highly recommend taking out a comprehensive insurance policy that covers cancellation. (Please see # 6 for more information about travel insurance).
